Physiotherapists Area
Here, you will find all the information you need to make the best use of the BruxApp Cloud platform for your profession.
Bruxism, a widespread phenomenon,
a new challenge for the physiotherapist as well.
The most recent scientific publications have highlighted how bruxism can be a risk factor, a contributory cause or even the triggering cause of certain diseases related to musculoskeletal overload.
These include, first and foremost, temporomandibular disorders, but also myalgia, muscle tension headaches and cervicobrachialgia, which are increasingly common today as a by-product of a hectic lifestyle.
At present, it is estimated that bruxism affects about 30% of the population. Many millions of people around the world suffer from it to varying degrees, but these figures will most certainly be underestimated. This is because, on the one hand, there is a lack of epidemiological studies on a worldwide scale; on the other hand, the post-pandemic period has shown an increase in cases of bruxism with all its consequences.
Therefore, not only the dentist, but also the physiotherapist must be prepared for this challenge, identifying risk factors in bruxism patients and managing the treatment in the correct way.
This happens because they continue to generate and self-sustain all those muscular tensions at the origin of the problems you are trying to treat. If the patient does not learn to manage those tensions, all forms of treatment will soon be in vain.
BruxApp changes the paradigm, putting the patient at the centre. Working on self-awareness, it helps him or her take on the role of the first role in the management and resolution of their problem, supported by experienced professionals.
A device with a solid scientific basis
1. Thanks to the EMA (Ecological Momentary Assessment) technology employed by BruxApp, it is possible to assess a patient’s behaviour in real time and in his or her environment for a reasonably long time. The Smartphone-Based EMA is now a reference standard for awake bruxism within the Standardised Tool for the Assessment of Bruxism approved by the International Bruxism Consensus Panel at the International Association for Dental Research (IADR- Boston 2021).
All the data is managed according to the strict rules of the European GDPR for the protection of health data.
2. BruxApp is the only platform in the world that offers the digital version of the Standardised Tool for the Assessment of Bruxism (STAB), the assessment tool for bruxism recently published in the Journal of Oral Rehabilitation by an international consensus of experts in the field after five years of work by the Bruxism Consensus Panel – IADR / IADR
3. The principles of EMI (Ecological Momentary Intervention) are the tool BruxApp uses for patient cognitive-behavioural re-education and positive bio-feedback processes, based on the test results and the doctor’s diagnosis.

The physiotherapists featured on the BruxApp Cloud platform are all experienced professionals able to guarantee patients the correct professional training in this field.
A team of qualified practising physiotherapy lecturers from the Master’s Degree Course in “Musculoskeletal and Rheumatology Physiotherapy” at La Sapienza University in Rome, members of GSID andGTM-AIFI, is, in fact, training master classes of physiotherapists with expertise in bruxism and TMD, through weekend courses or the annual University Master’s Course in Rome.
Thanks to the collaboration with the Italian Study Group on Orofacial Pain and Temporomandibular Disorders (GSID) the didactic material of the University Master follows the guidelines of the GSID board with the endorsement of Prof. Daniele Manfredini, one of the leading international experts on the subject.
During the theoretical lectures and interactive discussions, participants will learn all the theoretical Evidence Based basics and with the practical sessions on patients, they will reinforce the shared theoretical contents and clinical experiences of the instructors (physiotherapists and dentists).
You will be connected to an International Community of instructors and colleagues who stay connected, to engage in constant discussion and updating, thanks to the GSID’s training activities and annual International Congress.
The GSID Facebook group, also open to physiotherapists, has more than 14,000 registered members worldwide.
